Senior Musicianship Group take part in LPO Soundworks

Our Senior Musicianship Group lead by Alison Baillie, with the assistance of Gareth Williams, recently submitted a composition to accompany a silent film as part of The London Philharmonic’s (LPO) ‘Soundworks’ online platform.

Composers were invited to create sound effects for an extract from “The Balloonatic”, an old film starring comic actor Buster Keaton.

The group are made up of young people between the ages of 11 and 14. To create the sounds for this recording, they used anything they could find! They used a keyboard for the opening music, other items include a fan, waste paper bin paper, ruler…All the objects were found in the English room they meet in weekly on a Saturday. The only musical instrument was the keyboard.

This video is part of The Studio, an online platform for the LPO Soundworks community, sharing insights from industry professionals across the arts, and creative resources for young musicians. LPO Soundworks is a community of young people aged 14-19, uniting musicians with talented experts from other art forms, to collaborate and create performance pieces at various points across the year.
