Kodaly and Early Years Programme

The SCYM early years programme with Felicity Hamilton is designed with children aged 4 – 7 in mind. Every child takes part in a Kodaly method class which is a group class that teaches the very early stages of musicianship in a gentle, enjoyable way. Ear training and a feeling of pulse is fundamental to the method, which moves onto teaching notation. The method uses songs and games to teach children.

Children in the early years programme may learn the recorder, piano, violin, cello or double bass as advised by SCYM tutors and according to tutor availability. They may also choose to play in beginner ensembles.
